CERIC at Trieste Next 2025

Date
26.09.2025 - 28.09.2025

As in previous years, CERIC will also be present in Trieste Next 2025, the Festival of scientific research that will animate the heart of Trieste, from the 26th to the 28th of September.

In particular, CERIC organised, together with Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, two conferences (free entrance, but reservation – which can be made directly on the conferences webpages, links below- required):

Saturday 27 September (6-7.15 pm) [in Italian]
ART FORGERIES AND CRIME: SCIENTIFIC RESPONSES [link to register]
With Vittoria Luda Di Cortemiglia (expert consultant in Organized Crime Prevention and Mitigation) Gianluca Quarta (University of Salento), Franco Zanini (Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste).
This panel will focus on the role of advanced analytical techniques in preventing and combating international trafficking of cultural goods and art forgeries, allowing to identify and monitor complex and transnational criminal networks.

Sunday 28 September (10-11.15 am) [in English]
LARGE INFRASTRUCTURES CONNECTING IDEAS, TECH, PEOPLE [link to register]
With Alessandro Fabris (Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste), Lilli Freda (Executive Director EPOS-European Plate Observing System), Andrew Harrison (Executive Director CERIC), Caterina Petrillo (President Area Science Park), Maurizio Vretenar (CERN).
This roundtable will analyse the impact of large and/or distributed research infrastructure at the local and international level, from different points of view: what role do they play in economic development, technology transfer, and employment?

Both conferences will be moderated by Marcello Turconi, CERIC Scientific Communication Officer.

Moreover, CERIC will join Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and Area Science Park at exhibition space that will enliven, from Friday to Sunday, Piazza Unità d’Italia, with an activity dedicated to OPVStability, one of the European projects the Consortium is partner. This EU project focuses on organic photovoltaics, and aims to find new combinations of materials and structures to make this type of solar cell more durable: the final precious step to make them suitable for widespread adoption. Working on this research are 10 young researchers from around the world, including CERIC PhD student Devina Gupta. Fifteen minutes to test – together with our Communication Officer Elisa Baioni and with Devina Gupta- your knowledge of solar energy. Fifteen minutes to discover – by playing! – what organic photovoltaic panels are and why they represent a promising energy source. While Friday morning the activity will be specifically addressed to school pupils, you can join us on Friday afternoon/evening (2pm-10pm), Saturday (10am-2pm) and Sunday (4pm-8pm).

As usual, Trieste Next will be a showcase for innovation and applied research where researchers and entrepreneurs present their experiences and tell how, thanks to the technological transfer of cutting-edge research, new solutions can be created. This edition, the 14th, is entitled “Life Within. Conversations Across Sciences and Technologies” and it is promoted by the Municipality of Trieste, the University of Trieste, ItalyPost, Area Science Park, OGS and SISSA.
