PaGES 10 officially kicked-off
|On Wednesday, January 28th, the kick-off meeting of the PaGES 10 project took place at the CERIC premises in Trieste.
Marina Coricciati, CERIC project officer and PaGES 10 project manager, welcomed participants with an introduction to PaGES and the work plan. Then, the scientific staff from CERIC Slovenian Partner Facility (Janez Plavec, Peter Podbevšek and Andraž Krajnc) went through the scientific topics that will be addressed throughout the project implementation together with the teachers of the four schools involved in the 10th edition of the project*.

In particular, this year the experimental activity that pupils will carry out will focus on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. NMR is a non-invasive analytical technique that exploits magnetic fields to determine the molecular structure and dynamics of matter. Students will be involved, thanks the collaboration of researchers from the Slovenian NMR Centre (at the National Institute of Chemistry in Ljubljana), in samples preparation and analysis for both solution and solid-state NMR.

In addition to the experimental activity, pupils will also learn the basics of project and communication management in a research infrastructure – with lectures by Andrea Santelli, CERIC chief administrative officer and Marcello Turconi, CERIC scientific communication officer, respectively. Pupils will finally have the chance to present the acquired knowledge to a wider audience of fellows at the final event organised in each of the participating schools.
