Project Summary
The goal of the proposal is to increase the scientific offer of the Italian Partner Facility with an upgrade of the microtomography (microCT) off-line instrument and hiring a dedicated resource for the management of this facility. The instrument will serve CERIC ERIC users from both the scientific and industrial communities.
One of the two microCT systems operating in the SYRMEP laboratory will be upgraded and a person will be hired in order to support users in their experiments and help them in data analysis. A shielded walk-in hutch and part of the existing instrumentation will be kept, whereas a new manipulation system, a detector and a micro-nano focus X-ray source will be purchased (around 500 k€).
The upgraded equipment will be designed and realized using the strong know-how and competences of the SYRMEP team and it will be a flexible tool for experiments meeting users’ requirements in different research sectors (energy, new materials, cultural heritage, etc..). The person will be hired around month 18 in order to receive the necessary training both in the joint use of the beamline and conventional microCT systems and in the data analysis workflow before opening the facility to users. He/she will follow the commissioning phase in order to acquire full control of the new facility and then he/she will support the users in the following 18 months of the contract (total cost 113 k€).
Total budget for the implementation of the action: EUR 832.265
