Project Summary

The aim of 600SSNMRCERIC proposal is to purchase new 600 MHz NMR console with specialized probes that will be dedicated for measurements of solid samples. This new console will extend the usability of the new 600 MHz magnet that the National Institute of Chemistry will purchase simultaneously, allowing for the state-of-the-art solid-state NMR experiments and NMR diffusion measurements. Such combined system of the two stand-alone devices will replace the existing old Varian 600 MHz NMR system (Magic) that is presently being offered to CERIC users.

Solid state NMR studies can for instance be important for research of inorganic materials that are important in many fields, including batteries and fuel cells, semiconductors, optical materials, MOFs, catalysts, and glasses. Modern and powerful equipment is also important for industry. For instance, determination of the microscopic structure by NMR spectroscopy of solid materials for the needs of pharmacy is becoming more and more common in the world.

Two main manufacturers of equipment for NMR spectroscopy control the majority of the market: Germany’s Bruker and Japan’s Jeol. Both offer high-quality equipment that enables the implementation of the most modern and technically demanding NMR experiments. The final decision regarding the selection of the best supplier will be made by a special commission consisting of experts with international references in the field of NMR spectroscopy.

Total budget for the implementation of the action: EUR 1.039.995
