Research position – Biological Samples Analyst

The Central European Research Infrastructure Consortium, CERIC–ERIC, is a multidisciplinary Research Infrastructure open for basic and applied research in all fields of Materials, Biomaterials and Nanotechnology. CERIC has been built by integrating leading national research facilities based in 8 countries (Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania and Slovenia) into a unique European entity supporting the production of basic knowledge and technology transfer, and promoting the mobility of researchers in an international multicultural scientific environment.

Position description:

The successful candidate will be involved in R&D activities with focus on FTIR spectroscopy, microscopy and nanospectroscopy mainly for, but not limited to, the analysis of biological samples (such as tissues, cells, tissue homogenates, biomolecules in solutions). The successful candidate will be also involved collaborations and activities, especially in the field of Cultural Heritage. He/she will be directly involved in setting up protocols and measurement methodologies. The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with the other scientists of CERIC and CERIC Partners and with research staff of external companies involved in the research activity.

Qualifications and other Requirements:

The successful candidate has to satisfy the following requirements:

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnologies, o related disciplines
  • Proven knowledge in FTIR spectroscopy
  • Work experience in industrial R&D
  • Excellent knowledge of Italian language, both spoken and written
  • Good knowledge of English language, both spoken and written

The following competences will be considered an asset:

  • Proven knowledge of characterization techniques that can be correlated to FTIR analyses, such as: mass spectrometry, circular dichroism, chromatographic techniques, scanning electron microscopy;
  • Proven Knowledge of nano-FTIR instrumentation and basic measurements operations;
  • Analytical skills in sample preparation, sample measurement and data analysis
  • Proven Expertise in the basic operation of cell culturing, like seeding cells, maintaining a culture of cell fixation will be taken in consideration
  • Proven Expertise in handling, preparing and analyzing samples in the fields of Cultural Heritage, Biophysics and Biology.
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize are expected, together with the ability to interact with staff and facility

Conditions

The position will be based in Basovizza, Trieste, Italy.

  • The nature of the service requested falls within those provided for by art. 409, point 3, of the Italian code of civil procedure (“Other collaborative relationships that result in a continuous and coordinated provision of work, mainly personal, even if not subordinate”);
  • The activities requested and performed will be autonomously organized by the collaborator, both with reference to the timing and to the place of work, without any relationship of subordination.

Duration: until 31.12.2021
