PhD student position at the Ruđer Bošković Institute – closed October 2016

The Ruđer Bošković Institute invites to send applications for a PhD student position in the field of graphene research. The successful applicant will participate in the Graphene Flagship partnering project “Nanofluidics and Ultrafiltration with Track Etched GRAphene Membranes” (NU-TEGRAM) and national project “Ion beam induced changes in Crystalline Materials” (MIOBICC).

Description

Both NU-TEGRAM and MIOBICC projects investigate response of the novel 2D materials to energetic (MeV) ion irradiation. Research is conducted at the largest research infrastructure in Croatia (RBI ion accelerator facility in Zagreb), and in close collaboration with EU project partners from Germany, France and Netherlands.

As a PhD candidate, you will conduct research on MeV ion – matter interaction, with a focus on graphene modifications, targeting nano/ultra-filtration using MeV ion perforated graphene.

Prerequisites for Appointment to Assistant Position:

In addition to the general conditions for employment, applicants must meet the requirements stipulated in Article 43. in the Scientific Activity and Higher Education Act, must meet the Additional criteria and:

  • Completed academic graduate course of studies in physics or chemistry
  • Through their undergraduate degree(s), the candidate must have maintained a level of achievement conducive to enrolment in an appropriate doctoral study program
  • English fluency (both in oral and in writing)

Applicants must meet the following Additional Criteria: The candidate should also be able to demonstrate recognized excellence in study and research through, for example, relevant awards and specific achievements as well as participation in scientific research, coauthorship of scientific papers, and presentation at scientific meetings.

Applications should include: resume, appropriate diploma or certificate of completion of the study, a transcript of passed courses and GPA, e-mail contact at least one person for a recommendation, and other evidence that the conditions and additional criteria are fulfilled.

Appointment to an Assistant position is for temporary period for 5 years. Doctoral students are required to enroll in doctoral studies.
