CERIC contribution to the ESFRI 3rd Exchange of Experience Workshop
Location12 September 2018, Vienna – Austria
The 3rd Exchange of Experience Workshop on “Effective Use of Preparatory Phase Funding'” aimed to enable interaction, coordination, and networking between ESFRI Projects and ESFRI Landmarks.
The event reviewed the typical steps of an RI in the (up to) ten-year preparation and early implementation phase. Participants were informed about the current ESFRI objectives for implementation and the (forthcoming) roadmap updates and discussed how to identify and overcome the main barriers in RI implementation, and how to optimize the use of EU Preparatory Phase funding and other resources.
Among the invited participants were representatives of the ESFRI Projects on the 2018 Roadmap, representatives of ESFRI Landmarks willing to share their Preparatory Phase experiences; ESFRI Executive Board members and Chairs of Working Groups; representatives of the European Commission; experts in legal consortium issues and StR-ESFRI representatives.
CERIC was represented by the deputy director Ornela De Giacomo. Following the recommendations in the EU Competitive Council conclusions from May 2018, which “invited Member States and the Commission within the framework of ESFRI to develop a common approach for monitoring of their performance and invited the Pan-European Research Infrastructures, on a voluntary basis, to include it in their governance and explore options to support this through the use of Key Performance Indicators”, the first results of a survey distributed on the topic to the European Research Facility association’s Members, and to other research infrastructures and ERICs in order to contribute to the implementation of the Council Conclusion, were presented.
The event took place on September 12th, one day before the start of the International Conference on Research Infrastructures – ICRI 2018 in Vienna, in the frame of the ESFRI events, the Launch of the ESFRI Roadmap 2018 and the 66th ESFRI Forum Meeting.
